Alumni Updates

The University of Pennsylvania Alumni Weekend, scheduled May 14-15, 2021, will be a virtual celebration. In-person celebrations will be scheduled when the Penn administration decides it is safe to do so from threats of contracting COVID-19. Congratulations to Kaden Stenger, Beta Pi ’19, on being named Interfraternity Council President at Penn. Kaden is currently the Beta Pi Internal Vice President. 

Congratulations to Paul Zaentz, Beta Pi ’69. He is the producer for the Netflix series, Ratched, which has been nominated for best TV drama by the Golden Globe Awards. Unfortunately, the award went to The Crown. 

The Council of Ivy League Presidents has issued a joint statement that to be consistent with prior restrictions taken by the Ivy League in response to COVID-19, there will be no spring sports conference season. However, it has been decided that each individual school in the Ivy League may schedule local sports competitions with any schools located within a 40-mile radius of that school’s campus.  

In the April 6, 2021, eletter, Penn68, sent to all Penn alumni, Class of 1968, Joe Klein, Beta Pi ’65, was named as a panelist in a Zoom discussion of media and journalism. Penn68 provided the following short version summation of brother Klein’s accomplishments:   

“Joe Klein is TIME’s political columnist, an American political commentator, and author. His weekly TIME column, “In the Arena,” covers national and international affairs. He is best known for his work as a columnist for TIME magazine and his novel Primary Colors, an anonymously written roman à clef portraying Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign. Klein is currently a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is a former Guggenheim Fellow.  

Joe Klein is the author of six books, most recently Politics Lost, a book on what he calls the “pollster–consultant industrial complex.” He has also written articles and book reviews for The New Republic, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Life, and Rolling Stone. In 2004 he won the National Headliner Award for best magazine column.”
