| NewsPassing of Julia Wellons It is with deep regret and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved chef emeritus, Julia Wellons, on July 11, 2010. Julia served "her boys" from 1969 to 1989, providing hearty lunches and dinners as well as motherly advice to the hundreds of Beta Pi brothers who were fortunate enough to be active members during her tenure. She was fondly known as the "Queen Bee" of Beta Pi. At our Founders' Day 2009 event, Julia was honored on the twentieth anniversary of her retirement and was presented with a series of generous gifts by the chapter's alumni, many of whom had helped support her financially in her retirement years. During her 20-year tenure, Beta Pi won eight Smythe Awards. This was no coincidence. The bonds and camaraderie that were formed when the brothers ate meals together provided the foundation for an active brotherhood that achieved high levels of success. Julia's leadership in the kitchen and as counsel to the undergraduates she served played a significant role in the success of the chapter. Julia's presence, wit and guidance will remain in our hearts forever. Share your stories and memories of Julia on the message board. Continued... Study Finds Penn Degree Ranks among Most ValuableThe return on investment of a Penn degree ranks among the top dozen in the country, according to a study conducted for Bloomberg Businessweek. Penn ranked 10th on a list of 554 colleges and universities, with an 11.8 percent annual return on investment, totaling $1.3 milllion over 30 years. The study was based on self-reported compensation data from 1.4 million college graduates collected by Payscale, an online salary and compensation information company. For the full rankings, see What's Your College Degree Worth? on the Bloomberg Businessweek Web site. Continued... What's YOUR Story?Wouldn’t it be great if someone could make a movie about our PiKA experience? Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately, for some) the cameras weren’t rolling during our days at Penn. The experience we shared can only live on through our memories, stories and photos. While we all shared the same great experience, we each have our own unique stories to tell from it. And we need your help to document them! Tell us a great story or two that you fondly remember from your undergraduate days. We’ll feature the best stories on our web site and in future print publications. So what's YOUR story? Click here to tell us. Continued... All News |
